TESTDRIVE_01

THE ARRIVAL.

You wake up, wet and bruised, in the water.

You don't recall falling, but you recall a flash of bright light, and the next thing you know you're washing up on the shoreline. You can see two moons and a planet in the sky. Directly abovehead is a slash of oscillating lights that flash painfully bright with every passing second - and you witness a handful of silhouettes getting spit out of the lights, falling into the water with a loud splash.

It's a surprising sight; just as surprising is the fact that you're not alone.

A stranger you didn't notice approaching hauls you up onto your feet, checks you for injuries, and then you're lifted into a shuttle, where you're healed by the med techs on board. There are others like you who were pulled from the water and the sand, and they're in various states of healing. You're all soaked in seawater - and by the look of things, you're all equally at a loss about your situation.

An automated message keeps repeating over the PA system in English: "You are currently in Caius Allied Territory. Welcome to Alexandrina."

Where the hell are you?

You're now in Alexandrina, and we hope you enjoy your stay.

NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE.

It isn't your lucky day.

Something, somewhere along the line, goes incredibly wrong. Rather than keeping you at the shores of Alexandrina, the rift pulls you in and spits you out in a place that's a lot less watery and clear. The first thing you come to is the taste of dirt and grime, and the hustle and bustle of a city that doesn't have an off-switch.

Overhead, there are high-rises and towers that go up further than your eyes can see. It seems neverending, and natural light struggles to filter through the metal. The shock only starts to fade away when you hear the sounds of a struggle not too far away from where you landed. Investigating will lead you to a group of Caia Maxus harassing a few Terrans on a back alleyway. The Terrans are trying to sidestep their way out of this (they'd rather not get involved in a fight), but the Caia Maxus far outnumber them and all escape routes have been blocked.

No one else is stepping in to intervene. If anything, the rest of the onlookers seem to be encouraging the rough treatment. So now you get to decide:

OPTION A | YOU STEP IN LIKE THE HERO YOU ARE. You step between the two parties to try and avoid an escalation. You don't want to start trouble, or maybe you do and this seems like a good reason to fish for a fight.

OPTION B | YOU LOOK THE OTHER WAY. This isn't your problem really, so without saying a word, you head for the other direction. The Terrans weren't asking for help anyway, so maybe they could handle it. Best hope nothing will let you regret your decision.

Choose wisely. You'll feel the effects of your choices sooner than you think. Regardless of what you decide though, the Hypatia Rescue Fleet 409 will locate you a few Terran hours later. They'll tell you they have no idea how you ended up in Koriba, that's never really happened before, but they're glad they managed to find you before anything major happened.

THE NIGHT OF.

It's a lot to take in. You're on an alien moon, looking out to a planet that looks a lot like Earth but isn't. You can see the storms swirling around, the deep blue of its own seas, as you listen to the crash and pull of the waves not far from where you stand. The stars are different here too - there are no constellations that you recognize immediately.

Some of the older locals are lingering outdoors with you, and they nod at you as you make your way around the cottages. Are you headed to the beach? You might find a few couples having a moment there. Are you headed back into the cottages? If you peer into some of the windows, you'll find entire families sitting together, or parents tucking their children to bed.

If you're headed into the woodsy areas that extend away from the beach, you might hear a rustling sound or two - from something too large to be another person.

Careful where you walk tonight. There's a reason for lights out being a thing.

WELCOME TO THE 409.

It's the morning after your quick orientation into the Alexandrina settlement, and everything looks dewy and homey — until you start hearing loud splashes, followed by shots firing off nearby. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a bunch of eldritch horrors falling from the rift abovehead. They stand at roughly ten meters tall each, lumbering out from the water with angry screeching and flailing limbs. They're already kicking up a mess at the shorelines, and upending some of the makeshift outposts lining the beach.

The locals are shooting at them to keep them away from the settlement borders. Most of them are adults, but some of the shooters are as young as fifteen or sixteen, and clearly used to the kickback of the firearms they're carrying. One of these shooters pushes you forward, tells you to get moving. Another hands you keys to a vehicle and points you in the direction of the fleet — every able adult needs to help in manning the patrol lines, they say. The keys fit into a hoverbike, which in turn is armed with blast guns up front.

"Get up in the air and help the guys out," the stranger urges you. "We don't have as many men as we used, to. Get going, get going!"

...Maybe those bikes come with a how-to manual? On the bright side, at least you're not alone in trying to figure these bikes out.

NOTHING WASTED, NOTHING THROWN.

The beach is saved! You're drenched in monster blood, there's sand in places you didn't realize you even had, and your bike is in some form of damage after those first few crucial minutes of getting the hang of riding them.

Now comes the cleanup, and your character is armed with large chainsaws and buckets. The creatures need to be chopped down to smaller sizes before they can be properly incinerated, and everyone's kindly asked to suit up and get to chopping!

There are small stalls and tents lined up along the beach for various purposes to help with the process. There are refreshment tents for when the sun heat gets to be too much; there are portable incinerator ovens, which burn the creatures' parts down into fertilizer (no point letting it go to waste, hey!), there are shower tents for when you're done with the hacking and sawing, and at the far end of the beach, away from the gore and the carnage, is a beach barbeque bonanza.

From the way people act, this is a normal day in the 409.

So why not grab a saw, chop up some monster flesh, and have yourself a nice beef-flavored something? You've earned it today.

Midoriya Izuku | Boku no Hero Academia

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-07-31 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The Night of

[For the umpteenth time that day, Izuku Midoriya was left alone to think.

Not a great thing, all things considered, with his mind loving to work overtime and run a million miles a second, rivaling his own speed with full cowling, or Iida's speed with reciproburst activated. If he'd had a notebook (he'd asked for one, but nobody was able to supply him with anything; he couldn't sketch, write, or take note of anything with his hands, so he was left to stew. Stewing was never a good thing, and led his feet to wandering and his mouth to moving.

Wandering, in this case, to what looked like a beach.

All it did was make him think of home. Of the beach he'd cleaned right before he'd gained One For All, and...everything, really.

This was another world. Another planet.

How did he even get here? He'd woken up, still in his nightclothes (a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt that simply said "Shirt" on it) and ready to go down to the kitchens for something to drink, and then sat down on the couch in the common room to relax for a bit before going back to bed, and he...did he doze off? Regardless, when he came to, he was in a body of water, in a place he'd never been before in his life.

And with everything else he'd learned today, he just had more and more questions that heaped onto each other, piling up until they just overflowed out his mouth in quickly-spoken, low-toned words:]

Did a quirk send me here? The technology used here is far beyond anything that I've seen, not even the support department at UA makes anything that advanced. And what about that planet? is there a way to get back? Will I be able to get back? How will I--

[His thoughts descend into gibberish as he keeps muttering to himself, lost to the couples on the beach with him, the night, or...anything, really.]

[ Keeping one's head is the most important part of being in a new situation. All may go to hell around one, but the energy can be captured and channelled, and observation the key to putting it to use. Croix's midnight walk serves dual purposes: one, to get a better look at Alexandrina now that the chaos of the day has faded; and two, to lend her some space to think. She keeps her distance from the couples, idly willing them to get a room.

Turns out, she wasn't the only one with the same idea. There's a teenager hardly older than one of her students wandering the beach, having quite a time getting his thoughts in order. He doesn't seem to realize they don't take much proximity to overhear.

Croix's always had a soft spot for students, and little patience for noise. The two traits blend in glorious harmony, resulting in a desire to tell this boy, for the love of the Nine, to shut up. She clears her throat and speaks gently, tone belying her feelings. ]

It seems to me that you're in a similar bind I am. Take a moment and breathe deeply; we can't get anywhere with you panicking like that.
thunderingpeace: (Now hold on a sec here--!)

He's an awkward nerd. Forgive him.

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-01 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
WAAA!

[Wow, way to be smooth, Izuku. What a great way to introduce yourself, too: get jolted out of your muttering with a cry of surprise. Yep. You are greatest Pro-Hero.

Oh, and it's an attractive woman. Just...wonderful.]

I--S-sorry! I'm not panicking! Not really!

[With that tone? Yeah, anyone would be convinced. Still, he scratched his head, trying his best to smile despite the awkwardness that now hung over him like a thick sludge.]

But you're right. I just...I mumble to gather my thoughts. Um. Sorry. Kacchan always told me it was a bad habit--She doesn't know who that even is, what are you doing

[He coughed, clearing his throat.

Come on. breathe.

He does, taking a deep, long breath.]

Sorry.
onerous: (the one that I love so dear)

[personal profile] onerous 2018-08-01 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[The more questions she gets answers, the more appear in its place. While she was more than used to strange occurances, of waking up in strange places with strange things, this... this definitely took the cake.

She wasn't sure what to think. The various couples, the strange feeling unease of something being out in the dark...It all reminded her a little too much of the Lake of the Departed; she kept expecting the moon to turn into the sunset or something.

No one seemed keen to really talk with her either, but then, Yuri had grown used to being essentially invisible, but it was frustrating. She felt tired and confused, and there was this guy mumbling to himself...

Wait-- The things he was saying made it seem like he was definitely in the same boat as her.
]

Um-- [She pivots as he passes, raising a hand but not grabbing onto him. She hesitates a second, fingers curling in uncertainly before she drops her hand to her side.] Excuse me? You're not from here either?
thunderingpeace: (I'm not a stalker. I'm observing.)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-01 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[He stops. His muttering ceases mid-word as a strange voice speaks to him that sounds oddly...normal. Like someone he knows. And from those words--

He slowly turns his face towards her, before pivoting entirely. Yep, that sure was a cute girl looking at and talking to him. Thank God he was in a class with several cute girls, or else he'd be...more awkward than he is now, but uh.

Yeah, sorry, this dude's an awkward nerd, I'm so sorry you chose him to talk to.

His smile is boyish, comforting, with that tinge of discomfort he usually gets when he's meeting someone new -- just at the corners of the mouth, though, it's hard to notice.

His fidgeting, on the other hand, is very easy to notice.]

Uh, yeah! Sort of! Definitely!

[Someone please teach him how to talk to people. Save him.]

It looks like we're in the same boat, huh?
onerous: (There in the distance)

[personal profile] onerous 2018-08-01 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Don't worry, one of the guy's she knows is literally incapable of looking girls in the face-- Yuri's kind of used to it. Though his reasoning stems from Trauma and not because he's flustered by a pretty face.

Still, Yuri doesn't bat an eye at it. Her gaze falls to his fidgeting and she leans back on her heels a little, one arm going across her body to grasp her opposite elbow, a bit uncomfortable herself with talking to someone. Well, someone alive. She feels like she's got a good grasp of interacting with the dead by now. The living? Still a work in progress.
]

Sort of...? [WHAT...WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN, DEKU... But she sighs a little, looking at least a little relieved.]

I was starting to worry it was just me going crazy or something. One second I'm-- home. [Sort...of.] And then... I don't remember falling asleep or anything.
Edited 2018-08-01 01:33 (UTC)
thunderingpeace: (...really?)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-01 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, I mean!

[Just stop, Izuku. Just. Literally. Stop talking before you hurt yourself and your brain falls out.

Or at least start talking coherently like a normal person. You're a hero--well, hero-in-training, but who's splitting hairs--at least act like it!]

You don't remember falling asleep, either?

[He thought he did, but why would he just sit on the couch to fall asleep right when he was on the way back? That didn't make sense. Maybe he was just sitting on the couch to do something else and whatever it was actually sent him here, and...]

It just sort of...happened.
onerous: (floating in the pale moonlight)

[personal profile] onerous 2018-08-01 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Yuri shakes her head, frowning lightly in thought] I was climbing a mountain... So there's no reason I would've just laid down and gone to sleep or anything.

[SHe crosses both arms over her chest now, looking down at the ground as she thinks] So why were we-- Transported? I guess I can't think of anything else to call it. Another world...? [Now she's muttering to herself, before she shakes her head to clear it and looks at him]

I don't understand why we were taken in the first place. [With the emphasis being on 'we.' Clearly they must've been taken for some reason, but she's not sure what the link would be. Did they need them for specific abilities or something??]
thunderingpeace: (Now hold on a sec here--!)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-01 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Climbing a mountain? Why? She didn't look the type to like to go hiking...though he'd misjudged people based on appearances before.]

Maybe it was some kind of accident, like a Quirk--we, ability or something, gone wrong.

[It wasn't much, but it was an idea. Though how powerful would this...whoever it was...have to be if they grabbed people from such a wide radius? Was it an ability that went both ways, or was it one way only? So many questions...]
onerous: (They all fade away)

[personal profile] onerous 2018-08-02 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
['Quirk' is a new one, and Yuri's brows furrow slightly, even if she's able to get the gist of what he means.] That sounds-- [And then she hesitates, because she feels like she's probably one of the last people to be calling it this, so she finishes rather lamely:] Impossible.

[She eyes him curiously. He doesn't seem young enough to still blindly believe in super powers (haha...ha.....), but he clearly indicated that with what he said, right? Then again, she supposes she wouldn't be able to think much else beyond an answer of 'magic?' or something considering crossing the shrine often led to an entirely different world too.

Yuri didn't expect she'd ever want to be facing a terrifying ghost lady instead of this, but at least she'd been prepared for that. She looks around a little, frowning at the rustling that seems to be getting closer in the darkness.
]

...So if we find whoever's responsible, maybe we can get home. Assuming they're even here too to begin with. [She rests her hands on her hips a moment and takes a breath, resigning herself to the fact she might have to work together with someone else on this.]

Alright. My name is Kozukata Yuri. I hope we can get along well and figure this out.

[Seriously though that rustling noise is getting annoying what the hell]
thunderingpeace: (...really?)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Yuri if you only knew. Only please don't ask because if you do, I can guarantee you will be inundated with so much information that your brain will explode, because even though Izuku has a quirk on his own, he still hasn't learned how to shut the fuck up about them yet.

At least with conversation, his awkwardness went down a hair.

He smiled, scratching his cheek.]

And if we don't find them, maybe we can find someone else who can do the same thing, or else figure out what they did.

And I'm, uh. Midoriya. Midoriya Izuku. It's nice to meet you, Kozukata-san.
onerous: (The distance from my heart)

[personal profile] onerous 2018-08-03 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I think finding someone else with that kind of power is even less likely... [Not to rain on the hopeful parade here but uh, Yuri's pretty sure those possibilities are in the negatives or so.]

But, it's nice to meet you too, Midoriya-san. [He's younger than her, but she's always been rather overly polite with people. It tends to put a nice barrier up.

But she gestures for him to walk with her, since standing around in one place makes her uneasy.
] Are you from Japan too then?
thunderingpeace: (Some people have killed for this smile.)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but it's worth a try, right? If there are people from different places coming here, then at least one of us might have an idea of how it works.

[Again, vortex quirks exist. Actually, man, he could do with running into someone that has one of those right now, at least to get a good handle on how it works first-hand. How many people even had those at UA? Probably nobody, because if they did, then they would have gotten into Class 1-A for sure--

He stops his train of thought, following Kozukata-san's lead and walking with her. He brightens at her question.]

Yeah! Are you a college student, Kozukata-san?

[He almost asked: "What's your quirk?" but stopped himself. But she was definitely older than him from the looks of it -- she looked more mature than any of the high school girls he ran to at UA, but that could just be her demeanor.]
onerous: (since I last saw the light of day?)

[personal profile] onerous 2018-08-03 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[She looks at him a moment, just quietly studying. She doesn't need to use her abilities to reach out and read his heart or his mind or anything like that--he seems to wear it all pretty easily on his face. He's the earnest and sincere type, isn't he.]

You're... Pretty optimistic. [She's still not entirely sure if that's a good thing or not in this sort of place. While Yuri isn't fast to jump aboard the "give up now" train, she's definitely more pessimistic (she'd say realistic) about their potential stay here.

His question has her shaking her head though.
] No, I was getting ready to graduate high school. [Not that she ever would, because she'd dropped out in her last year, but he didn't need to know that. It wasn't a lie, she had been in her last year and all.]

You're probably a first year or so, right? Hmm, probably we didn't go to the same school though... [She still has no reason to believe they're not from the same world, so...]
cellout: (pic#12469707)

[personal profile] cellout 2018-08-01 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's strange, but the notion of going "home" never really occurred to Cell. He'd planned on leaving Earth the moment he reduced it to ashes, but even ignoring future plans that never were, the fact things had gone awry and he was the one reduced to ash put a damper on that, too. With nothing to really go back for (save for revenge, but he could wait for that knowing he'd need to up his game a hell of a lot) he only really thinks about that when he hears Deku mumbling to himself.

It actually catches his interest, just a bit. Sentimentality is not something he was programmed with.
]

And just what if you can't go home, boy?
thunderingpeace: (Now hold on a sec here--!)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-01 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh?

[You know, most people would think that the appearance of a muscular green man would be on the list of weird shit that happened today. Joke's on you Universe; Izuku got superpowers by eating a dude's hair and his best friend / rival / former bully / nebulous something sweats nitroglycerin and blows shit up by detonating it. Izuku knows weird.

It's the question that surprises him, catches him off-guard. And not even for sentimentality reasons, just...the idea. It stills him a little.

But he still awkwardly starts, flailing a bit before sobering, biting his lip and shuffling his feet.

You can bulk the kid up, but those middle school tendencies still remain.]

Oh! Uh.

Well. If there's a phenomenon that is able to bring us here, wouldn't it make sense that there's something that could bring us back, even if it's not the same source?

[Vortex quirks and teleportation quirks existed, after all.]

You know...like a teleporter or something? We got here somehow, so if we reverse the process...! And if nobody can find a way, we'll have to keep trying until we do, right??
cellout: (pic#12469747)

[personal profile] cellout 2018-08-02 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
So you'd keep trying even if it was completely hopeless?

[He'd make a remark about it, probably derisory like the smug prick he is, but...

Well, literally every person he met on Earth was like that. Even the completely normal citizens he'd killed who never stood a chance of escape. It isn't that strange to him.
]

That kind of determination could see you home in the end. Or it might just drive you insane.
thunderingpeace: (Cheeky little shit)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
[He laughs a bit, though it's an awkward one. The way he talks reminds him of Tokoyami, a little, and that just makes him miss home even more.

He needed to find a way back. His Mom, Kacchan, and All Might were all waiting for him there. Well, maybe Kacchan was waiting. Sometimes, with the way they interacted, it was as though he forgot he existed, but that was a thought for another day.]

I'll aim for the former, and hope to not have to deal with the latter.

[He's dealt with some crazy things in his life, anyway. If he can handle villains, he can handle an alien planet. Right?]
cellout: (pic#12469745)

[personal profile] cellout 2018-08-03 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hah. An optimistic approach then, is it? A common approach amongst humanity, to be sure.

[Dr.Gero had become a complete misanthrope in his old age, cynical to the core, but even his actions could be called optimism for the future, couldn't they? To secure his own happiness against all the odds.

Well. No matter; it's not like he gives a shit about his creator anyway.
]

Perhaps it's why you all survive as long as you do.
glitchinthesystem: (my eye on you)

[personal profile] glitchinthesystem 2018-08-02 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ He had come to the beach to get his own thoughts out of his head. The new sights were maybe a little overwhelming but there was something at looking at a real ocean that had a calming effect. It seemed that he wasn't the only one with that idea. As he was stepping onto the sand, Glitch see's some kid walking along muttering to themselves.

It earns a quirked brow and a curious look as he slowly approaches from behind. Something about quirk and something called UA? Definitely meanings that were lost on Glitch, but the babble is enough to get him to speak up behind him; ]

Hey, pointy; keep going on like that and somethin's gonna fly in your gob. Never know what kind of freaky life forms they've got flyin' around here.
thunderingpeace: (I didn't mean to click Explicit!)

I couldn't resist, I'm sorry.

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[And just as he says that, Izuku turns in mid-mutter, and something -- a fly? -- does in fact fly right in his mouth, leading the poor boy to gag in the middle of the beach, spitting out the poor helpless creature that managed to fly in his mouth and almost down his throat.

Thanks for the warning, Glitch. He definitely needed it.]
glitchinthesystem: (Cocky)

Oh my god i love it

[personal profile] glitchinthesystem 2018-08-03 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ Okay, so, he isn't normally one to laugh at people but this does getting something of a quick and stifled snicker out of him. Man did he call it or what? He does bring a hand to his mouth to pass it off as a cough, though the small grin makes little of that effort. ]

Man, don't die. It was only a bug. Be kind of a sad way to go between you and me.

[ however, giving the other a curious look. ]

So, do you normally walk along mumbling to yourself or is this a new development from a nervous breakdown? I mean, I could believe either really.
thunderingpeace: (Now hold on a sec here--!)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[You a cold man, Glitch. But you know what, his asshole of a best friend / rival / frenemy / Eternal Question Mark, Kacchan, would probably appreciate that.

Izuku, on the other hand, rubs his throat, making sure that all the remnants are out before looking up at him, laughing nervously and scratching his head.]

Ahaha, I'm...I uh, I do this a lot, yeah. It just helps me get my thoughts together, that's all!

[He also annoyed the everliving shit out of everyone around him with it, but he didn't need to add that part. Really, he was embarrassed enough.]
glitchinthesystem: (hmmm)

[personal profile] glitchinthesystem 2018-08-03 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ Now lets not go too far. Glitch definitely didn't want a corpse on his hands. He'd have to find a way to get rid of it after all. Oh and it'd be traumatizing or something? Yeah, that.

The answer though is satisfying enough. It at least gets a shrug on his end seemingly accepting it pretty easily. ]

Right. Okay. Fair enough. Makes sense after all the messed up craziness of the day.

I mean after all-

[ as he gives this kid another once over; yeah, definitely super obvious this kid wasn't from this so called planet either. Glitch himself was in a pair of worn jeans and boots with fairly used grey hoodie on. This kid, well he may as well have been in bed. ]

You came here via ocean birth too, huh?
