TESTDRIVE_01

THE ARRIVAL.

You wake up, wet and bruised, in the water.

You don't recall falling, but you recall a flash of bright light, and the next thing you know you're washing up on the shoreline. You can see two moons and a planet in the sky. Directly abovehead is a slash of oscillating lights that flash painfully bright with every passing second - and you witness a handful of silhouettes getting spit out of the lights, falling into the water with a loud splash.

It's a surprising sight; just as surprising is the fact that you're not alone.

A stranger you didn't notice approaching hauls you up onto your feet, checks you for injuries, and then you're lifted into a shuttle, where you're healed by the med techs on board. There are others like you who were pulled from the water and the sand, and they're in various states of healing. You're all soaked in seawater - and by the look of things, you're all equally at a loss about your situation.

An automated message keeps repeating over the PA system in English: "You are currently in Caius Allied Territory. Welcome to Alexandrina."

Where the hell are you?

You're now in Alexandrina, and we hope you enjoy your stay.

NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE.

It isn't your lucky day.

Something, somewhere along the line, goes incredibly wrong. Rather than keeping you at the shores of Alexandrina, the rift pulls you in and spits you out in a place that's a lot less watery and clear. The first thing you come to is the taste of dirt and grime, and the hustle and bustle of a city that doesn't have an off-switch.

Overhead, there are high-rises and towers that go up further than your eyes can see. It seems neverending, and natural light struggles to filter through the metal. The shock only starts to fade away when you hear the sounds of a struggle not too far away from where you landed. Investigating will lead you to a group of Caia Maxus harassing a few Terrans on a back alleyway. The Terrans are trying to sidestep their way out of this (they'd rather not get involved in a fight), but the Caia Maxus far outnumber them and all escape routes have been blocked.

No one else is stepping in to intervene. If anything, the rest of the onlookers seem to be encouraging the rough treatment. So now you get to decide:

OPTION A | YOU STEP IN LIKE THE HERO YOU ARE. You step between the two parties to try and avoid an escalation. You don't want to start trouble, or maybe you do and this seems like a good reason to fish for a fight.

OPTION B | YOU LOOK THE OTHER WAY. This isn't your problem really, so without saying a word, you head for the other direction. The Terrans weren't asking for help anyway, so maybe they could handle it. Best hope nothing will let you regret your decision.

Choose wisely. You'll feel the effects of your choices sooner than you think. Regardless of what you decide though, the Hypatia Rescue Fleet 409 will locate you a few Terran hours later. They'll tell you they have no idea how you ended up in Koriba, that's never really happened before, but they're glad they managed to find you before anything major happened.

THE NIGHT OF.

It's a lot to take in. You're on an alien moon, looking out to a planet that looks a lot like Earth but isn't. You can see the storms swirling around, the deep blue of its own seas, as you listen to the crash and pull of the waves not far from where you stand. The stars are different here too - there are no constellations that you recognize immediately.

Some of the older locals are lingering outdoors with you, and they nod at you as you make your way around the cottages. Are you headed to the beach? You might find a few couples having a moment there. Are you headed back into the cottages? If you peer into some of the windows, you'll find entire families sitting together, or parents tucking their children to bed.

If you're headed into the woodsy areas that extend away from the beach, you might hear a rustling sound or two - from something too large to be another person.

Careful where you walk tonight. There's a reason for lights out being a thing.

WELCOME TO THE 409.

It's the morning after your quick orientation into the Alexandrina settlement, and everything looks dewy and homey — until you start hearing loud splashes, followed by shots firing off nearby. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a bunch of eldritch horrors falling from the rift abovehead. They stand at roughly ten meters tall each, lumbering out from the water with angry screeching and flailing limbs. They're already kicking up a mess at the shorelines, and upending some of the makeshift outposts lining the beach.

The locals are shooting at them to keep them away from the settlement borders. Most of them are adults, but some of the shooters are as young as fifteen or sixteen, and clearly used to the kickback of the firearms they're carrying. One of these shooters pushes you forward, tells you to get moving. Another hands you keys to a vehicle and points you in the direction of the fleet — every able adult needs to help in manning the patrol lines, they say. The keys fit into a hoverbike, which in turn is armed with blast guns up front.

"Get up in the air and help the guys out," the stranger urges you. "We don't have as many men as we used, to. Get going, get going!"

...Maybe those bikes come with a how-to manual? On the bright side, at least you're not alone in trying to figure these bikes out.

NOTHING WASTED, NOTHING THROWN.

The beach is saved! You're drenched in monster blood, there's sand in places you didn't realize you even had, and your bike is in some form of damage after those first few crucial minutes of getting the hang of riding them.

Now comes the cleanup, and your character is armed with large chainsaws and buckets. The creatures need to be chopped down to smaller sizes before they can be properly incinerated, and everyone's kindly asked to suit up and get to chopping!

There are small stalls and tents lined up along the beach for various purposes to help with the process. There are refreshment tents for when the sun heat gets to be too much; there are portable incinerator ovens, which burn the creatures' parts down into fertilizer (no point letting it go to waste, hey!), there are shower tents for when you're done with the hacking and sawing, and at the far end of the beach, away from the gore and the carnage, is a beach barbeque bonanza.

From the way people act, this is a normal day in the 409.

So why not grab a saw, chop up some monster flesh, and have yourself a nice beef-flavored something? You've earned it today.

Whoa. What was that?

This is the first thing you hear as soon as you try connecting to the network. Something tells you this isn't something that happens often, but asking anyone who knows more about this place than you do isn't netting you any answers. The more people start looking at you like you're crazy, the more you're tempted to brush it off...

Connecting to the network again will trigger its original default message:

Welcome to HypeNet, DefaultUsername[xxxx]! You are now accessing the Hypatia Mass Network. You may input your personalized username and start chatting now!

Time to get some answers. Maybe someone else must have heard it too, right?

OOC NOTES.

Welcome to the first TDM of HYPERJUMP! We're trying something different with the Koriba prompt, so please bear with us. Cast your vote here! Both options have their own sets of consequences that will affect the first intro log of the game, so choose your actions carefully!

Additionally, the interactions in this test drive can be game canon if the parties involved agree to it. Everyone is also encouraged to use test drive threads for samples in your application. We are super excited to have you here, and we hope you like what you see. ♥

Angel has what for all intensive purposes can be called a 'magical link' to technology where she can interface and control it at will. I know characters are nerfed on arrival, but is this something she could regain in the future/have a sense of her powers still there even if they're weak or dormant now?

[personal profile] mashhit 2018-08-02 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, brute force~? I'm all about that.

[Drake, herself, had an interesting presence about her but it was impossible to fully understand. Since he wasn't that intelligent of a magic caster, Estarossa decided to leave the mystery alone rather than pry.

Admittedly, the fire she shot out of her guns earlier looked cool, so he didn't bother to tease any further.]

You look interesting but I'm not the lackey type. [He got closer to Drake, almost oblivious when it came to the encroaching monstrosities. His black eyes bore down on her, albeit in a friendly sort of way.]

You can watch and admire me, though.

torchwick: Honestly? not really. I prefer this.

[personal profile] mashhit 2018-08-02 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. [Nearly invisible balls of metal buried themselves into a host of the bodies of the monsters near where Estarossa was having his fun. He came to a halt after a while, watching where they kept getting shot--following the points of impact back to their owner. It would have been easy to find her before but he felt sluggish in comparison. It took an eternity to find her and it was only just before she raised her voice, almost as if she were complaining about him.

Something about that weapon bugged him but he would leave it be for now. Reaching up, he swiped a bit of blood from his brow, flicking bits of it in the dirt. Grinning, he went along with T-Doll's disgusted well-wishes and continued his needlessly violent fight. The nature of her grimace and the fact that she clearly wanted nothing to do with how gross he looked was completely lost on him.

A half hour later, he was squatting beside her, staring down at her almost oppressively as he wondered how the hell she got up there before without being noticed.]

Hey. Wake up. [Because she was nice enough to wish him good luck, he decided to return the favor and follow her request.

Who wouldn't want to be woken up by a guy covered head to toe in eldritch blood?]

Nothing Wasted

[personal profile] mashhit 2018-08-02 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
What're you gawking at?

[His hand holding it, Estarossa seared a tentacle-ridden arm he had taken off of a corpse with dark flames. It boiled, heating up before he reached up to rip a chunk out of it with his teeth.] Eugh, gross.

[He spat it out, watching the locals as they tore apart the rest of the corpses. He offered Mordred a colorless sneer.]

You're right to be disgusted. Cooking the stuff does ruin the taste...

[personal profile] mashhit 2018-08-02 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[The whole problem with street brawls had always been that they were usually brief when it came to Estarossa and his brothers. They weren't exactly reasonable people who let bygones be bygones--they were vengeful in the biblical sense. If anything, the oppression of the local Terrains seemed downright polite. Estarossa watched on with a peaceful little smile while enjoying the little show that presented itself.

The red-haired lady that stood in the way of the Caians caught him off guard. Initially, her posture warned him that she was going to kill them outright but she ended up taking the first hit.

It prompted a bark of a laugh out of him that ended up with a little snot coming out of his nose. Still, he gawked when she came back swinging harder than the Caian leader, which he couldn't help but watch out of sheer shock.]

Monsters, naturally.

[ it is in shuten's nature to prod — or enable, if she knows someone's vices. her free fingers fan apart for a second, as though she is feeling out what's in the air. using her most powerful attack is out of the question, as it would sap too much of the magic that keeps her alive. if ibaraki, her devoted general, was here, she would come up with a plan of attack.

instead, shuten hums to herself and steps forward, bare feet silent beneath the scrape of her sword against the ground. ]

Humans need protecting, I've been told. [ or rather, that's the excuse she'll use. ] If you are incapable of fighting, I will fight for you.

[ even though she uses the word 'human,' she appears human enough. with all the chaos going on around them, it's probably for the best that shuten keeps her horns and fangs hidden. no need to add fuel to a growing inferno. she continues to walk with unnatural calm towards the ruckus, her kimono sleeves shifting in the wind. ]

But perhaps we should look at our enemies first.

Offend? [He chuckles.] You needn't watch your words around me, girl. You couldn't offend me if you tried.

[It sounds less like he's reassuring her she didn't offend and more...well, the tone of a smug prick.

Either way--
]

In any case, I'd been engaged in a battle to the death. One I lost. Nothing all that complicated.

[well look what the cat rift dragged in. his presence, while surprising, is welcome.]

did you get an upgrade since the last time i saw you, poe?

[ 'missus'. that prompts a bark of laughter from drake, and she shakes her head. ]

Captain! [ she'll reach over and give jake a light punch on the shoulder. ] If you must call me anything, call me that. Or Boss.

[ drake lifts the gun from her shoulder and twirls it around her finger, letting it glint in the moonlight. ]

You've got a good eye, kid, and you're smarter than you look. [ she won't let him take it, but she'll hold the gun out for jake to get a better look at while they walk. ] What else can you tell me about this?
delmarred: wada arco. (27)

i'm so happy!!!

[personal profile] delmarred 2018-08-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ blood sprays from where the axe met skin, and drake feels it warm against her skin. a quick flick of her wrist and that warmth meets sand, freeing herself from that sensation so she can focus on the fight at hand.

it's easy to think "if master was here," but drake's not one to dwell on what's not here at her disposal. two servants, even with their powers not at full strength, is more than enough to take down a monster like this. ]

Ain't it exciting? [ drake no!! once more her weapon disappears, leaving her unarmed for this moment while they wait to see if the monster has any more fight in it. ] Did my summoning here go wrong, or are you feelin washed out too?

[ saint graphs aren't so easy to fix without da vinci around. ]

It is part of my job as a gracious and attentive host, regardless of our little detour to some unknown but very settled world. Hard to miss, besides.

And I would call it a downgrade, actually. I feel rather like I'm wandering around like a newborn babe.

[He doesn't have a single ceiling machine gun, it's terrible.]
thunderingpeace: (...really?)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Yuri if you only knew. Only please don't ask because if you do, I can guarantee you will be inundated with so much information that your brain will explode, because even though Izuku has a quirk on his own, he still hasn't learned how to shut the fuck up about them yet.

At least with conversation, his awkwardness went down a hair.

He smiled, scratching his cheek.]

And if we don't find them, maybe we can find someone else who can do the same thing, or else figure out what they did.

And I'm, uh. Midoriya. Midoriya Izuku. It's nice to meet you, Kozukata-san.
thunderingpeace: (I didn't mean to click Explicit!)

I couldn't resist, I'm sorry.

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[And just as he says that, Izuku turns in mid-mutter, and something -- a fly? -- does in fact fly right in his mouth, leading the poor boy to gag in the middle of the beach, spitting out the poor helpless creature that managed to fly in his mouth and almost down his throat.

Thanks for the warning, Glitch. He definitely needed it.]
glitchinthesystem: (Cocky)

Oh my god i love it

[personal profile] glitchinthesystem 2018-08-03 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ Okay, so, he isn't normally one to laugh at people but this does getting something of a quick and stifled snicker out of him. Man did he call it or what? He does bring a hand to his mouth to pass it off as a cough, though the small grin makes little of that effort. ]

Man, don't die. It was only a bug. Be kind of a sad way to go between you and me.

[ however, giving the other a curious look. ]

So, do you normally walk along mumbling to yourself or is this a new development from a nervous breakdown? I mean, I could believe either really.

[That's a lot of jargon that goes over Athena's head, but it stops mattering after--]

Hyperion? What planet are you from?
girlcorrupted: (pic#12402780)

[personal profile] girlcorrupted 2018-08-03 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
So you've heard of it? A planet called Pandora was the last place I resided.
thunderingpeace: (Now hold on a sec here--!)

[personal profile] thunderingpeace 2018-08-03 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[You a cold man, Glitch. But you know what, his asshole of a best friend / rival / frenemy / Eternal Question Mark, Kacchan, would probably appreciate that.

Izuku, on the other hand, rubs his throat, making sure that all the remnants are out before looking up at him, laughing nervously and scratching his head.]

Ahaha, I'm...I uh, I do this a lot, yeah. It just helps me get my thoughts together, that's all!

[He also annoyed the everliving shit out of everyone around him with it, but he didn't need to add that part. Really, he was embarrassed enough.]
eyeofassault: (I wanna go home)

[personal profile] eyeofassault 2018-08-03 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Awwww, how sweet and repulsive. What a combo. As for how she managed to be stealthy as heck...well, it's part of her 'job' description. It also helps that she's tiny fan-estimated close to 4 & a half feet, which doesn't help with his overbearing demeanor given that he dwarfs her by comparison.

So once G11 is done groaning and mumbling to herself for a few more minutes, the initial process of cracking open her eyes turns into silently bugging out from surprise and repulsion.]

...N-nightmare? [Her hopes of returning to a nice dream by squeezing her eyes shut is struck down in a few seconds. Damn. His appearance hasn't improved either.]

Ugh, reality. [Still talking to herself. G11 looks and sounds reluctantly resigned as she sits up and hugs the gun to her chest. Beyond that, she continues to sit there and look him over:]

You stink.
onerous: (The distance from my heart)

[personal profile] onerous 2018-08-03 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I think finding someone else with that kind of power is even less likely... [Not to rain on the hopeful parade here but uh, Yuri's pretty sure those possibilities are in the negatives or so.]

But, it's nice to meet you too, Midoriya-san. [He's younger than her, but she's always been rather overly polite with people. It tends to put a nice barrier up.

But she gestures for him to walk with her, since standing around in one place makes her uneasy.
] Are you from Japan too then?
badassassin: (pic#11222816)

[God, Rhys. Why are you the way that you are.

Unfortunately for Rhys, Athena doesn't know who he is yet, so she's... well, she's still going to be mean to him. But more mean than she would have been otherwise.

Gritting her teeth, she stands up on the running boards of her hoverbike so she can loom more effectively.]
Then get out of my way. [To emphasize, she throttles the engine and knocks her bike into his like bumper cars, if bumper cars didn't have bumpers.]
glitchinthesystem: (hmmm)

[personal profile] glitchinthesystem 2018-08-03 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ Now lets not go too far. Glitch definitely didn't want a corpse on his hands. He'd have to find a way to get rid of it after all. Oh and it'd be traumatizing or something? Yeah, that.

The answer though is satisfying enough. It at least gets a shrug on his end seemingly accepting it pretty easily. ]

Right. Okay. Fair enough. Makes sense after all the messed up craziness of the day.

I mean after all-

[ as he gives this kid another once over; yeah, definitely super obvious this kid wasn't from this so called planet either. Glitch himself was in a pair of worn jeans and boots with fairly used grey hoodie on. This kid, well he may as well have been in bed. ]

You came here via ocean birth too, huh?
